Pro-Life establishment groups in Texas are uniting behind a bill that would fall far short of actually abolishing abortion or even meaningfully saving babies, but Abolish Abortion Texas is urging Texas legislators not to be distracted by more of the same kinds of bills that have already failed to abolish abortion in Texas. We must stand strong and keep our focus on providing the equal protection of the laws for preborn children.
House Bill 7, which is authored by Texas State Rep. Jeff Leach, and Senate Bill 7, which is authored by Texas State Sen Bryan Hughes, would expand avenues for civil lawsuits targeted at out-of-state abortion pill providers. But the bill would enshrine blanket immunity for women who willfully murder their children and would fail to address enforceability issues with current law.
Pro-Life lobbyists united behind the bill after Texas Alliance for Life, which is well known for subverting equal protection bills and watering down already weak Pro-Life regulatory bills, managed to further weaken House Bill 7 after passionately testifying against the effort in committee.
Here is @joepojman, the president of Pro-Life establishment group @TXAlliance4Life, testifying last week against House Bill 7, which would create new civil liability pathways targeted at out-of-state abortion providers.

Abolish Abortion Texas is calling on our lawmakers to see the weaknesses in House Bill 7 and to instead support House Bill 144, which is authored by Texas State Rep. Brent Money, in order to establish equal protection of the laws for preborn babies and to truly abolish abortion.
Abolish Abortion Texas Vice President J.R. Haas also testified at the hearing about concerns with House Bill 7, recommending that lawmakers remove the portions granting blanket immunity to mothers who obtain abortions and exhorting them to support equal protection.
Haas also raised the alarm about the more than 30,000 self-induced abortions which still occur on Texas soil every single year, a trend that has only worsened under new Pro-Life regulations.
He noted that House Bill 7 would merely be a continuation of the same strategy, while pointing out that Texas law already has several existing avenues for civil liability lawsuits with abortion. Even if the state of Texas were able to enforce lawsuits in states with shield laws protecting abortion pill providers, the substances would still flow from already existing overseas sources.
Like most Pro-Life legislation, House Bill 7 offers women legal immunity to murder their preborn children.

Haas also noted that under the blanket immunity clauses in House Bill 7, even the President of Planned Parenthood could take abortion pills in the rotunda of the Texas Capitol, livestream her actions while announcing that she is murdering her child, and not face any sort of liability.
Abolish Abortion Texas has also been warning lawmakers about the insufficiency of House Bill 7 to abolish or decrease abortion in our state. These statements have been instrumental in shaping the conversation about House Bill 7 in the news and on social media.
Even as many Pro-Life organizations in Texas throw their support behind House Bill 7, Abolish Abortion Texas remains committed to only supporting legislation that would truly abolish abortion in our state, and to opposing legislation that continues to deny the equal protection of the laws to preborn babies.
Pray that lawmakers in Texas would obey God and truly love their preborn neighbors by finally putting an end to the shedding of innocent blood here in the Lone Star State.
