An Important Meeting

Dear friend,

My colleague Wes Thomas and I recently met with the leaders of Texas Right to Life.

Of course, we’ve met and spoken with Texas Right to Life staff on numerous occasions, but this was the first time the five of us all sat down together—Wes and me with Texas Right to Life’s Jim Graham (President), Elizabeth Graham (Director), and John Seago (Legislative Director).

It happened after I reached out to Jim Graham to request a meeting and he graciously accepted and invited us to their office in Houston.

My primary purpose in requesting the meeting was for us all just to get to know one another better since we’re all fighting against abortion in our state.

Secondly, I wanted to have this meeting because we had seen Texas Right to Life start using the phrase “abolish abortion” lately and we wanted to hear directly from them what that phrase meant to them.

During the meeting, we got to know each other a lot better and I was grateful for their candor.

I learned that we each mean different things when we say, “abolish abortion.”

When Texas Right to Life uses the phrase, they explained, they mean it not as something new, but rather to clarify what they have always been about regarding abortion (from a policy perspective)—seeking the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court and, until then, saving as many babies as possible through passing incremental legislation as allowed by the federal courts (to my friends at Texas Right to Life, if I misstated that at all, please let me know).

However, when we at Abolish Abortion Texas use the phrase “abolish abortion,” we mean something different.

Of course, we all agree that Roe v. Wade should be overturned and babies should be saved.

That said, for us to abolish abortion (from a policy perspective) is to assert the present right and duty of the State of Texas to provide for the equal protection of preborn babies—without legitimizing judicial tyranny by waiting for the federal court’s permission—with the effect of saving the most babies in the long-term by taking away from everyone a license to murder them.

We believe that Roe v. Wade is unconstitutional, so states are not required to follow it.

States are required to follow the Constitution—the actual text—and not a federal court’s perversion of it.

Where the courts ignore the Constitution, we must ignore the courts.

But I digress.

Our meeting was not to change one another’s minds on this point.

Instead, we all simply wanted to understand one another better and even to discuss areas in which we could work together.

And I’m excited that the meeting with Jim, Elizabeth, and John was incredibly worthwhile.

We all left grateful for the open and productive discussion.

While our organizations still disagree on fundamental strategy, all of us call it a family disagreement.

Additionally, the meeting gave us an opportunity to discuss the potential of collaborating on several important projects in the future.

This ability to work together, where our core commitments permit partnership, could have a big impact on winning the battle to end abortion in Texas.

We finished the meeting on a positive note and snapped a quick picture which you can see below (Elizabeth had to leave before the picture).

I am grateful to have had this opportunity to meet, and I am looking forward to considering new ways in which we might be able to join forces in the future to strike a death blow to this holocaust which is happening here in Texas and across the country.

If you agree that it’s important for us all to cooperate where we can to abolish abortion in Texas, I hope you’ll consider chipping in $5 or $10 TODAY or becoming a Sustaining Member.

With so much at stake, we want you standing with us as we work together to put an end to the bloodshed in our land.

But whatever you can do, I hope you’ll join me in praying for the year ahead.

Whether you call yourself a pro-lifer, an abolitionist, or just a Christian who loves God and protecting His image-bearers, please pray that we would all be faithful to God as we strive together to love and save our preborn neighbors.

I’m grateful for your support!

Bradley Pierce

Executive Director
Abolish Abortion Texas

P.S. Wes and I recently had a productive meeting with the leaders of Texas Right to Life at their office.

I am grateful to have had this opportunity to meet to candidly discuss our strategic differences, but also to talk about how we could combine our resources to fight against abortion in our state.

I look forward to considering how we might be able to work together in the future.

If you agree that it’s important for people to cooperate where we can to abolish abortion in Texas, I hope you’ll consider chipping in $5 or $10 TODAY.

And please pray that Texas would grow in being faithful to love and save our preborn neighbors.

Thank you!
