Modern people like to think that we have left the relics of idolatry and pagan sacrifices in the distant past of human history. The biblical stories of ancient peoples offering up their children to Molech seem pretty far removed from us in 2022.
We are more modern and less superstitious than our ancient grandparents … right?
These days people pride themselves that science and reason are IN and idol worship and mysticism are OUT.
Or are they?
Modern child sacrifice
Once you begin to fight abortion today, it doesn’t take very long for it to become clear that we actually have not left the idolatry of child sacrifice in ancient times at all. It is alive and well right here in 21st century America.
And I don’t use the term child sacrifice as just a metaphor to communicate how bad abortion is morally. I mean that people today, in this country, are literally building altars on which to offer the remains of their children.
Does that seem hard to believe?
Well it isn’t a secret. They even make DIY videos like the one above to teach each other how to do it.
Practices like these are becoming more common every day in an era where greater and greater numbers of abortions are being performed by women themselves at home instead of by doctors in clinics.
Many women are embracing the shift from in-clinic abortions to at-home abortions as empowering since it gives them much more control over their experience.
As you can see, the woman in this video built her abortion altar with items like crystals, candles, tarot cards, and incense. She adds her abortion pills to the altar to “bless” them before she takes them.
She recommends that women place their child’s body in a container on the altar to “save for later when we find a way to properly dispose of the fetal remains in a way that gives reverence and respect and support to this sacred abortion experience.”
Does any of this sound familiar at all?
It should.
The Bible says,
“They built the high places of Baal in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to offer up their sons and daughters to Molech, though I did not command them, nor did it enter into my mind, that they should do this abomination...” (Jeremiah 32:35).
It turns out we haven’t left such unthinkable and abominable practices as deep in the history books as we thought. We now have YouTube tutorials on how to commit the abomination of child sacrifice from within the comfort of our own homes. So I guess the ancient practice has been modernized just a bit by technology.
This is what is growing…
…no, what is thriving in our country in this post-Roe era.
The failure of regulating abortion like healthcare
This is why regulating abortion as if it is healthcare will never abolish abortion.
For one thing, women no longer need the mainstream medical system to sacrifice their sons and their daughters. They can have more personal control over their abortion experience by practicing self-managed abortion at home. And none of our Texas laws prohibit it.
When abortion is regulated like healthcare instead of abolished as a crime, it simply facilitates the already shifting abortion market from medical facilities to the homefront.
In terms of loving our preborn neighbors, I doubt the babies care too much whether their dead bodies are incinerated as medical waste or flushed down the toilet or even placed reverently on an altar by their mothers. They are dead all the same.
Equal protection and child sacrifice
Abortion won’t be abolished until equal protection of the laws is established for babies in the womb.
The ONLY strategy that will ultimately keep the flames of child sacrifice in check is REPENTANCE. We must repent of following worldly-wise strategies instead of trusting in the Word of the Lord. We must repent of establishing injustice and partiality in our laws with compromised legislation and iniquitous decrees. In short, we must return to the LORD.
We don’t have to know every possible future development in child sacrifice technology before we can stop it. We simply need to recognize that innocent preborn babies are people too, and that willfully killing them is homicide no matter how or where it’s done, what tools are used, or who the principal actors are.
Equal protection is the strategy that will deal with the cause at the root instead of merely attempting to stay ahead of the ever-changing abortion market with by chopping at the branches.
Preborn babies must be protected by the same laws that protect us as born people. It’s the Golden Rule. It’s what impartial justice for the fatherless looks like. It’s what loving our preborn neighbors as ourselves looks like. It’s what Christianity looks like in a culture that sacrifices its children.
Abortion is a spiritual problem
It should be obvious to us all by now that abortion in America is not primarily a healthcare problem, or a political problem, or a resources problem. Abortion in America is a spiritual problem, which is why pastors and church leaders need to be leading in this fight.
Congregations all across this country need the leadership of godly church leaders, submitted to God’s Word and the Holy Spirit, to equip them in this fight.
If you are a pastor or church leader who truly desires to see the evil of child sacrifice abolished, but you are unsure what your role in the fight is, or you want more tools and encouragement, the Church Leaders Conference is for YOU.
Come enjoy fellowship with other pastors and leaders engaged in the fight to abolish abortion and learn how to apply your God-given gifts of preaching, teaching, and leading to help equip your congregation.
