Become a Delegate to your Republican Party Conventions

The Republican Party of Texas (RPT) and each county-level party holds conventions every other year. Through the convention process we have the opportunity to help shape the RPT and to set Texas’ policy in the legislature in the upcoming session and beyond.

By going to your local conventions and being a delegate for Abolition, you can be instrumental helping abolition keep the momentum it needs for the next legislative session.

Here’s how you can be part of changing Texas:

  1. Download a PDF copy of your Resolution to Abolish Abortion in Texas (make sure to bring at least 3 copies with you).
  2. Be a delegate to your precinct conventions. It’s easy!
    1. When and where: Your 2020 Precinct Convention will be held sometime after the polls close on Primary Election Day (March 3, 2020) and before the start of the County/Senate District Conventions (March 21, 2020). Please check with your local Republican County Chair for the most up to date information. (See https://www.texasgop.org/county_chairs/)
    2. What to expect: If you are a registered voter and affiliate with the Republican Party, you can participate in this convention. You can introduce and vote on resolutions. Then elect delegates and alternates to the next convention level.
    3. Introduce and advocate that your precinct pass the Resolution to Abolish Abortion in Texas
    4. Go to the next tier: If you’re available, you should consider attending your County or Senate District (SD) conventions as well. You can become a delegate to the County or SD convention at your precinct convention.

  3. Be a delegate to your County or Senate District (SD) conventions
    1. When and where: Your County or SD Convention will be held on March 21, 2020. Your county party sets the location and time.
    2. What to expect: In the days or weeks before the convention, you can visit committee meetings and let them know what issues are important to you. At the convention, you’ll set the rules by which the convention will operate. You will be able to vote on resolutions the committees have worked on. Then you’ll elect delegates and alternates to the state convention level.
    3. Introduce and advocate that your County or SD pass the Resolution to Abolish Abortion in Texas
    4. Go to the next tier: If you’re available, you should consider attending the RPT State convention. You can become a delegate to the State convention at your County/SD convention.

  4. Be a delegate to your State convention.
    1. When and where: This convention will be held in Houston from May 11th – 16th. Committees will meet May 11th – 13th. General Session and Caucuses will meet May 14th – 16th. Please check https://www.texasgop.org/2020-state-convention/ for convention details.
    2. What to expect: You will be able to testify before the committees on issues you care about, vote on the platform that will state the beliefs of the Party, vote on the rules that will steer the Party, and elect people to run the Party for the next two years.
    3. Join us at the state convention to advocate for the Immediate Abolition of Abortion to become a legislative priority of the party.
