Abolish Abortion Texas and other Texas abolitionists made their presence known at the Republican Party of Texas Convention earlier this month. We not only defended the sections of the Platform calling on our lawmakers to support equal protection and abolition, but also placed the strongest equal protection language we have ever seen in the Protect Life legislative priority.
Republican Party of Texas delegates confirmed this stance by soundly rejecting an effort from Texas Alliance for Life, a Pro-Life establishment group that opposes equal protection, to strike the language from the Protect Life legislative priority. Beyond this massive victory, we learned last week that delegates voted for Protect Life as one of the eight legislative priorities for 2027.
In other words, delegates not only confirmed their support for equal protection, but also showed lawmakers that abolition is a central priority for the Texas Legislature to pursue next year.

The language of the Protect Life legislative priority calls on lawmakers to “affirm the sanctity of every human life, created in the image of God, by securing the right to life and equal protection under the law from the moment of fertilization until natural death.” The language also names the specific loopholes in Texas homicide, assault, and wrongful death laws keeping abortion legal for pregnant women, and calls on the Texas Legislature to permanently repeal those loopholes.
This is the strongest abolition language we have ever seen in the Republican Party of Texas legislative priority on “Protect Life.” https://t.co/voEo3285Qb pic.twitter.com/9yqkc2Y3B9

Beyond equal protection and criminalization language, the Protect Life legislative priority calls for protecting babies from “destructive practices such as IVF and commercial surrogacy,” language which Abolish Abortion Texas and other abolitionists were instrumental in defending.
Just two years ago, Protect Life was not voted as one of the top eight legislative priorities, showing how Texas conservatives now understand that abortion remains legal in our state. Abolish Abortion Texas and other abolitionists actively made this case at the Republican Party of Texas Convention, proving how equal protection is required to finally abolish abortion.
The strength of this language marks a complete repudiation of Texas Alliance for Life among the conservative grassroots. Republican Party of Texas delegates thoroughly rejected a weakening of the Platform and legislative priorities, and the vote to make Protect Life one of the final eight legislative priorities further affirms their decisive support for equal protection and abolition.
Texas Alliance for Life spent several months trying to weaken the Republican Party of Texas stance against abortion, only for those stances to become stronger and more popular than ever.
While we are thankful to God that this important battle was won, and that the Texas Legislature will receive this firm exhortation to abolish abortion in our state, there will be a much larger battle to make sure the Protect Life legislative priority language is actually passed in 2027.
We won another victory. We have the momentum. But the war is far from over.

Abolish Abortion Texas spent massive amounts of ammunition to win at the Republican Party of Texas Convention, and we need more supporters committed to restocking our armory before the next engagement. Texas Alliance for Life may have lost their remaining influence with the grassroots, but they still have outsized influence with the establishment in the Texas Legislature.

The language in the Platform and legislative priorities may be stronger than ever, but mere statements will not save babies from slaughter or establish equal protection for preborn babies in Texas. We need Christians from across our state and beyond to urgently pray and give sacrificially to abolish abortion, honoring God and loving our preborn neighbors as ourselves.
