Abolitionist candidate David Lowe is FOR life

pro-life vs. Pro-Life

How is fighting to abolish abortion not Pro-Life? 🤔🧐

Pro-Life means that you are FOR LIFE. Or does it?

A recent article from the political arm of Texas Right to Life made it sound like an abolitionist candidate for Texas House District 91 is fighting against life.

But is that really the case?

How can you be fighting against life if you’re actually 100% FOR abolishing abortion completely and immediately?

It’s a good question, and the answer has to do with the words we use.

Stick with me for a minute because this is important.

Do you think there is a difference between being pro-life and being Pro-Life, and if so, which one are you?

That sounds like a stupid question, doesn’t it?

I’m pro-life, but I’m not Pro-Life.

Huh?

Right now you may be thinking, “If they’re literally the same words, what difference does it make if you use upper or lowercase letters? Sounds confusing.”

Yep, it is (and if you’ll keep reading, I’ll explain near the end the best way to cut through the confusion).

But first, why are we even talking about this and why is it important?

Like I said, a few days ago, Texas Right to Life PAC published an article attempting to slam David Lowe, an abolitionist candidate for the Texas House. [1]

The headline for the article is pretty provocative: “Republican Candidate Brags He’ll “Vote NO to any Pro-Life Bill”.

Sounds shocking, but…

Here’s the thing, although Texas Right to Life PAC obviously wants it to sound like it, they are NOT saying that David Lowe would vote against a bill that was pro-life.

As you know, the words pro-life just mean “for” life.

If Texas Right to Life PAC had said David was not “for” life, it would be a complete and totally malicious lie (and David could sue them for defamation).

David Lowe is running on a platform to abolish abortion completely and immediately. It doesn’t get any more FOR life than that.

Instead, what Texas Right to Life PAC is saying is that David would vote against a bill that is “Pro-Life” according to a different definition of that term.

That’s why they capitalize it.

Seems silly, but it’s true.

Look at these snippets from their article and video title and see for yourself:

Texas Right to Life PAC slams David Lowe

You see, Texas Right to Life PAC can’t deny that David Lowe is “for” life.

So instead, they capitalized Pro-Life, which indicates they mean something different by it than just “for” life.

If you watch even just 13 seconds of the video clip Texas Right to Life posted, you will hear that David Lowe is absolutely FOR life, but that he is also using Pro-Life in a different sense when he talks about voting against a Pro-Life bill. Here’s what he said:

“I’m willing to stand on the House floor and vote no to any Pro-Life bill, the only thing we need to do is abolish abortion.”

It’s notable that Texas Right to Life PAC didn’t include that last part in their headline; they seem to want people to be confused about David’s opposition to abortion.

So what did David mean when he started off by saying he would vote no to any Pro-Life bill?

Well, you may not have realized it yet, but for decades Pro-Life politicians and the organizations that support them have been using the term Pro-Life to mean something very different than just “for life.”

To them, Pro-Life doesn’t mean being for life by abolishing abortion.

This has become more and more evident over the last several years as Texas Right to Life and other Pro-Life organizations in Texas have become more public about their opposition to real efforts to end abortion in our state.

Just last year, Rep. Bryan Slaton offered an amendment to one of their Pro-Life bills to make it go into effect immediately to outlaw abortion instead of waiting for the Supreme Court to grant Texas permission.

What did Texas Right to Life and other Texas Pro-Life groups do?

They told legislators to vote against it. [2]

If you followed the advice of groups like Texas Right to Life and voted against legislation that would outlaw abortion immediately, you would not be pro-life (for life), but you would be Pro-Life. Your actions would align exactly with the uppercase Pro-Life strategy of the Pro-Life industry.

See what I’m talking about?

I know it’s confusing when the same words mean different things. Honestly, that’s the way Pro-Life politicians and organizations like it.

Texas Right to Life PAC wants you to think that David Lowe is against abolishing abortion, but they’re the ones telling legislators to vote against real abolition bills.

In fact, they’re only talking about David Lowe’s comments at all because they’re trying to protect his Pro-Life opponent, Rep. Stephanie Klick, who as committee chair KILLED the bill to abolish abortion, HB 3326, last session.

So does Pro-Life mean killing amendments that follow the Constitution by standing up to Roe v. Wade?

Does Pro-Life mean opposing candidates who want to abolish abortion?

Does Pro-Life mean supporting candidates who kill bills to abolish abortion?

Apparently, for Texas Right to Life PAC and many of the politicians they support, that’s exactly what Pro-Life means.

We here at AATX have known about this for a long time.

That’s why we started this organization.

For us, pro-life always just meant “for” life. It meant being “in favor of” life.

We’re all for that.

100%

I’m sure you are, too.

As you can see, though, that’s different than what Texas Right to Life means by Pro-Life.

But it’s confusing to tell people, “I’m not Pro-Life. I’m pro-life.”

And there’s an easy way to cut through that confusion.

Here it is.

Call yourself an abolitionist.

Of course, a label is just a label.

You have to look underneath to see what’s really going on, and you should.

What does it mean to be an abolitionist?

It means you want to follow the higher law: God’s law and the Constitution.

It means you want to keep the Golden Rule: do unto others (specifically preborn babies) by providing them equal protection.

It means you want to walk by faith: trusting in God, not in princes.

Being an abolitionist means that you are so firmly FOR LIFE, when it comes to fighting abortion, that you want to do God’s will God’s ways because that is what God will bless.

And we will only ever be able to ABOLISH the evil of abortion for GOOD when we have God’s blessing on our efforts.

Instead, let’s start protecting babies.

For life.

For life, for justice, and for the glory of God,
