Scare Tactics and the Boogeyman

When your opponents resort to scare tactics, you know they are running out of arguments worth listening to.

This is what opponents of equal protection for preborn babies often do.

I see it all the time. 

They conjure up a picture of abortion criminalization that is entirely disconnected from how our justice system actually works. They create an Equal Protection Boogeyman to frighten people away from the God-honoring idea of treating babies like they are people created in His image and deserving the same protections of law as all other people.

Don’t be fooled! The Boogeyman doesn’t exist. 

Equal protection isn’t unfair or harmful to women. That story is a manufactured farce that plays well in the media but it loses in the courtroom. Watch the 13 minute video above to understand how our justice system actually works.

Many Pro-Life leaders speak out of both sides of their mouths on this issue. 

On the one hand they say that life begins at conception and that a fetus is a person. Some even go so far as to say abortion is homicide or murder.

On the other hand they insist that laws of equal protection for babies in the womb are harsh and harmful to women.

Many Pro-Life leaders claim to uphold the sanctity of all human life…

But then they continue to deny the equal protection of the laws to babies in the womb in their legislation. Not only do some leaders fail to actively work for bills to completely abolish abortion, but often they openly oppose them. 

That’s what happened in Louisiana earlier this year when the abolition bill, HB 813, made it to the Louisiana House floor for a vote. 

In an open letter, National Right to Life (and 70+ other Pro-Life organizations) actually urged legislators in Louisiana and across the country to OPPOSE bills of equal protection that would simply protect babies in the womb with the same laws that already protect born people.[1]

They said, “We must ensure that the laws we advance to protect unborn children do not harm their mothers.”

And went on to say that, “turning women who have abortions into criminals is not the way…we will continue to oppose legislative and policy initiatives that criminalize women who seek abortions.”

Friend, if the act of deliberately killing an innocent preborn child isn’t treated like murder under our laws and criminalized for anyone who willfully and knowingly participates in it, then we are not loving our preborn neighbors as ourselves. 

Keeping one standard of law to protect ourselves and denying those same protections to others is what the Bible calls partiality.

God says He hates partiality in judgment.

God’s Ways are Good

In a post-Roe era, it is CRITICAL for abolitionist advocates to be able to dismantle the foolish arguments of those who oppose equal protection and lay that Boogeyman to rest. Make sure you watch the video above to understand how equal protection and the justice system work.

We don’t have to fear the results of passing righteous bills to abolish abortion. Doing what is right in God’s eyes toward babies isn’t harmful to women, or men, or anyone else.

In fact we can trust that the results of obeying God’s righteous standards is always good.

The Bible reminds us that the law of the Lord is perfect and right and pure and true (Ps. 19). And also assures us that, “Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.” (Ps.  119:165).

There is no reason to be anxious about practicing the Golden Rule toward babies: it is what God commands us to do. His commands are always good. 

We do not need to allow fear-mongering arguments to cause us to stumble in our goal to provide equal protection to our preborn neighbors.

We must continue to do God’s will God’s way and trust Him for the good results.

There are MANY voices speaking against equal protection for innocent babies. We expect that from pro-abortion advocates like Planned Parenthood and NARAL. But as you can see even so-called Pro-Life leaders often OPPOSE equal protection for babies.
