The committee hearing JUST ended. While writing this, I have not even left the Capitol yet—I wanted to write you this update first. As you know, the committee was hearing testimony on HB 896 by Rep. Tony Tinderholt to abolish abortion in Texas. Before I get to what happened at the hearing and where we go from here, I want to quickly share this stat with you. Over 400 of you came out in person to officially support the bill, and more than 300 of you registered to testify! Friend, that is tremendous! One legislative staffer even told me that there were more of us than had shown up for any other bill this entire legislative session! THANK YOU! Thank you to everyone who came and registered and testified so powerfully… Thank you to everyone who watched, prayed, and supported us on the livestream video… And thank you to everyone who supported this event and this cause by donating! By the grace of God, y’all made this day a huge success! To God be the glory! Okay, now here is what happens next: While the committee chairman and members patiently and respectfully heard our testimony yesterday (for which we are grateful), Chairman Leach still did not give the bill a vote. Let me be clear: if Chairman Leach does not give this bill a vote ASAP, then this bill—the only bill in Texas that would outlaw abortion—will die. This bill is in his hands. So many of you have already done so much, but this fight is not over yet. We need to let Chairman Leach hear our voices LOUDLY that we want this bill to get to the floor for a vote as soon as possible. We are grateful that they heard us, but now it is their turn to speak by doing their duty as legislators by voting on this bill. Please call upon them to do that by urging Chairman Leach to publicly support this bill and give it a vote so the other committee members’ can be heard. It really would mean a lot. More so, adding hundreds of sustaining members would give us the fuel we need to sustain this fight to abolish abortion in Texas! Thank you! Before I finally go home and go to bed (this email may even go out while I’m getting some sleep!), I just want to say one last thing… After a day of seeing God bring us together in such a mighty way, I am feeling so grateful for y’all right now!
