Friend,
I have some really good news. I am praising God right now because I just read Chairman Leach’s official announcement that HB 896, the bill that would abolish abortion in Texas, is getting a public hearing this Monday, April 8, at 8:00 AM. But while getting a hearing for a bill like this is a historic moment, it also means that we have a lot to do in just a few short days. This means that WE NEED YOUR HELP more than ever before! But before I get to how you can help (hint: I need you to come to Austin), here is what else we know. There are nine representatives on the committee, and four of them are Democrats who are pro-abortion. In fact, just last week, those four Democrats even boycotted listening to the testimony of survivors of failed abortions, so you can be sure they will oppose even more strongly a bill that would completely end abortion. This means that we need all five Republicans on the committee to support this bill. Here is where things stand with them: First, one member of the committee, Rep. James White, is a joint author of HB 896, which is the highest level of official public support a representative can give at this point. So thank you, Representative White! Secondly, we are grateful that Chairman Jeff Leach has heard our petitions and has scheduled the bill for the hearing this Monday, April 8, at 8:00 AM. But here’s some concerning news: Chairman Leach still has not said whether he would let the committee vote on the bill and he has not publicly supported it. In fact, he has told us and many others that he actually wants to significantly water down the bill before he would support it. We also think that at least one other Republican member of the committee may be willing to go along with that, and maybe even more. And with four of the nine members of this committee being pro-abortion Democrats, we can’t afford to lose a single Republican vote. But I can assure you this, we aren’t going to agree to any “compromise” that undermines outlawing abortion and giving preborn children the equal protection and justice they deserve. So we really need your help supporting this bill. Here’s what you can do: Can you please come to Austin this Monday, April 8, at 8:00 AM? I know, I know. . . If you’re like me, I know you have a lot of work to do. . . and you would have to take a day off. . . and those vacation days are just so precious. . . Trust me, I know this is asking a lot, but please hear me out why you should come. First, this is your opportunity to LITERALLY be a voice for the voiceless.
Our legislature only meets once every two years and this is probably our only shot to speak for the innocent babies of Texas like this until 2021. Also–reality check–let’s never forget that 110,000 more children are estimated to be murdered by abortion between now and then. Next, what I am asking you to do is really quite simple. All you have to do is take a piece of paper, fill half to 2/3 of it with your words supporting outlawing abortion, then come to the Capitol and sit in front of a committee for 2-3 minutes and read it to them. That’s it! And though it may be simple, it’s actually REALLY powerful. Not only are your words going to influence legislators and give courage to the strong and put pressure on the weak, but what you say will inspire many people watching in the audience and on the livestream to stand up and follow your lead by doing something. We say we love babies. Good. Now is our chance to sacrifice some of our precious time (and maybe a little bit of travel money) to show it in a very powerful way. So please come. We really need you there. Okay, let me back off on the guilt trip for a moment. I know that some people are watching small children, or caring for ailing parents, or have other very legitimate reasons for not coming. I totally understand. But if that’s you, there’s something you can do, too. . . You can watch and show your support by tuning in to our livestream video of the event. Knowing that you’re there watching and rooting for us will be a big encouragement to everyone who comes. And you can do that right from home! So whether you can come in person, or plan to watch the livestream video, here is what I need you to do right now: Having you as part of that event will allow us to share more information and instructions with you about the hearing. Having HB 896 set for a hearing really is a dream come true. But it’s also an opportunity that we NEED to maximize. That’s why, if you can at all swing it, we really need you there. Please? And if you can’t, we really want you to join those watching on the livestream. Either way, please go to the Facebook event and click “Going” right now. We’ll be sharing more details soon! And keep praying! Thanks! ![]() Bradley Pierce Abolish Abortion Texas P.S. P.S.
