Did you know that the strategy the Pro-LIfe movement is following now is the EXACT same strategy that opened wide the door for the Roe v. Wade decision in the first place?
That sounds shocking, I know.
But please hear me out (or scroll up to go watch my sermon from last Sunday).
You see, in 1973, when Roe v. Wade was being argued before the Supreme Court, the state of Texas had ALREADY denied preborn babies the equal protection of the laws.
Texas already had discriminatory laws on the books that provided far lesser penalties for killing a preborn child than a born child. Not only that, but by law a mother who murdered her born child could be held accountable by the justice system but a mother who had her preborn child aborted, or did it herself, could not be.
Not very many people know this, but those laws which were standing uncontested in Texas at the time of Roe v. Wade showed the Supreme Court that the state of Texas was being insincere and hypocritical in their arguments in Roe.
Texas wanted to argue that preborn babies were persons but had already clearly denied them the equal protection of the law. The Court even pointed this out when they issued their decision in favor of Roe.
But here we are 49 years later with an ever-increasing heap of discriminatory laws on the books. We are doing more of the EXACT SAME thing that let Roe in the door in the first place.
That’s what happens when we decide to chart our own path instead of following God’s instructions—we end up wandering in the wilderness.
We end up with laws that exempt mothers from the justice system entirely, laws that reduce penalties, laws that take abortion out of the criminal code and make it a healthcode violation, and more. We have stacks of laws that govern how, when, where, and by whom the killing may be done.
And now, with the Texas Heartbeat Act, we have taken the power of prosecution completely away from the government authorities and made it the responsibility of private citizens to try their hand at it instead. I talk a lot more about the Heartbeat Act in the sermon I preached at Mountain Top Church in Cisco, Texas, on their “Sanctity of Life Sunday.” See the video above.
It is clear that we just haven’t learned our lesson. The Israelites only wandered for 40 years before they stopped wandering and believed and obeyed God. We’ve got 49 behind us … and counting.
The truth is, these laws aren’t just pursuing a bad, self-defeating strategy—though they are that.
They are disobedience to God and His standards of justice. We have wandered from His ways and we are reaping failure because of it — not only failure for Pro-Life strategy, but judgment for our nation.
We are not going to win the battle against the evil of abortion, or any of the other evils in our land, until we repent of wandering from believing God and following His commands and instead learn to do God’s will God’s way.
The encouraging thing to remember is that God is still full of mercy, and His lovingkindness is everlasting. He promises that if we humble ourselves and pray and seek His face and turn from our wicked ways, He will hear us from heaven and heal our land.
That is a winning strategy to take us out of the wilderness of death and into the promised land of healing, if only we will follow it.
Please take the time to watch the video above this weekend. It is critical to open up our Bibles and understand these things the way God wants us to.
Thank you for standing with us in the fight against abortion.
For life, for justice, and for the glory of God,
