House Bill 2709 Leads the Way
Abolition is gaining ground in Austin!
Rep. Bryan Slaton led the way in the first post-Roe legislative session in Texas by filing HB 2709 to abolish abortion and protect the lives of preborn babies with the same laws that protect the rest of us. And now Senator Bob Hall has joined him by filing a companion bill in the Texas Senate. 🙌
Rep. Slaton first pledged to support the abolition of abortion back in 2020 and he followed through on that promise by filing the only abolition bill in Texas during the 2021 legislative session. And he is continuing to fight in 2023.
Now that Roe v. Wade is overturned, many people (including many legislators) mistakenly think the battle in Texas is over…
But Rep. Slaton and Sen. Hall are still fighting for the 19,000+ innocent babies who will be LEGALLY killed on Texas soil this year if our government fails to provide them with the equal protection of the laws.
Many people don’t realize it, but a MASSIVE loophole still exists in Texas law that keeps self-induced (a/k/a self-managed) abortion legal for mothers. And over 50 babies are still dying on Texas soil every day because of it.
Women can order abortion pills online and have them delivered to their mailbox without ever visiting a clinic.Legislation that Protects Babies and Women
And do you know what else?
Because it is currently still legal for mothers to commit their own self-managed abortions at home…
It’s also apparently legal for boyfriends, husbands, parents, or anyone to pressure or coerce women to kill their babies this way. Unless they are threatening life or limb, it generally isn’t illegal to pressure someone to do something legal.
Texas law does not yet protect the lives of helpless preborn babies with the same laws that protect our lives as born people. This also leaves women vulnerable to pressure and coercion.
This is unacceptable.
God commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves and warns us not to practice partiality in judgment.
Not only that, but…
✅ The U.S. Constitution
✅ The Texas Constitution, and
✅ The platform and legislative priorities of the Republican Party of Texas
also agree that we must provide the equal protection of the laws to all people, including those still in the womb.
1st Ever Abolition Bill Filed in Texas Senate!
We are grateful that God is working here in Texas and that the movement to abolish abortion completely is gaining momentum.
Just last week, state Senator Bob Hall joined Rep. Slaton’s strong stand and filed a companion bill to HB 2709. Senate Bill 2198 is the first abolition bill ever to be officially filed in the Texas Senate and shows that the call for equal protection is being heard.
As I’ve said before, the 2023 legislative session is a critical time in the fight to abolish abortion and provide equal protection. And as we work on the frontlines of this fight, it is clear that the voices of people like you are making a difference in Austin.
In 2023, the lives of over 19,000 precious preborn children are still on the line.
Now is not the time to pretend like the battle is won. There is a LOT more work to do before babies will be safe in Texas.
Praise God for the courage of legislators who haven’t bought the lie that abortion has already been abolished in Texas!
Please contact Bryan Slaton and Bob Hall and thank them for taking a stand for equal protection and encourage them to keep on fighting until EVERY baby in Texas is equally protected by law.
For life, for justice, and for the glory of God,
Bradley Pierce
