The Pro-Life headlines I’m seeing lately are INCREDIBLY misleading.

People need to know the truth:

Texas is not an “abortion-free state.”

Abortions are NOT down to nearly zero here.

LEGAL abortions are happening in virtually every state, even after the Dobbs decision.

But what about all the abortion bans?

I know, it sounds like I am trying to rain on everybody’s parade. But if babies are still dying “legally,” don’t you want to know about it?

I am sorry to say that babies are still dying right here in Texas and across the country.

Many people don’t realize it, but nearly every Pro-Life law includes a MASSIVE loophole that allows mothers to “legally” kill their own babies through all nine months of pregnancy.

Pro-Life laws usually restrict medical businesses and practitioners but specifically protect the mother’s “right” to actively and willingly participate in killing her own child.

Here’s what that looks like in the Texas trigger law, HB 1280:

The Texas Heartbeat Act (SB 8) has a similar exemption for mothers, as does nearly every piece of Pro-Life legislation across this country. This means that most Pro-Life laws do not apply to pregnant women who are aborting their own babies.

But are women really aborting their own babies without clinics?

Yes, they absolutely are.

The truth is that the abortion market has been shifting for a long time from surgical abortions to medication abortions. 

Over the years, Pro-Life laws have placed many restrictions on clinics, procedures, and doctors. Laws have been put in place across the country that restrict things like the types of surgical abortions that may be done or the types of buildings they may be done in. Some laws even regulate how the bodies of babies must be disposed of after they are murdered. 

All of this adds to the difficulty and expense of getting an in-clinic surgical abortion.

These conditions have helped create an environment where medication abortion has exploded in popularity and become the preferred method to kill babies in recent years. 

More than 50% of all reported abortions in the U.S. are now medication abortions.[1] And that’s just the ones that are reported.

Medication abortion can be prescribed in a clinic setting but many times it isn’t. Often, abortion pills are prescribed through telehealth appointments and mailbox delivery which is widely endorsed and promoted by organizations as trusted at the World Health Organization, Doctors Without Borders, and even our own government. On top of that, many women today are going outside the standard medical system and simply ordering pills online to be delivered to their doorsteps—no clinics or doctors required.
